Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has opened a tech center in suburban Detroit. The center, the Indian conglomerate’s first in America is to support Mahindra’s tractor and automotive engineering operations in India, while at the same time offering consulting and design services for Mahindra’s auto customers in the area.

The opening of the center is part of Mahindra’s plan to meet its goal of becoming a top 10 international carmaker by 2020. Already, the company is the largest tractor and SUV maker in its home nation and has been selling tractors in the U.S. since 1994. Moreover, Mahindra’s engineering services are well respected within the industry. Its clients include Bentley, General Motors, Navistar, BMW, Volvo, and Daimler.

Detroit was chosen over locations in Germany, England and Illinois.
